The Lakeland Youth Centre in Enniskillen.

The Western Education and Library Board's (WELB) Lakeland Youth Club, Enniskillen will re-open for a full programme of new activities next week.

The youth club is open to young people aged 14-18 years old and will be open every Monday and Wednesday from 7.00 pm to 9.30 pm, beginning on Monday September 17.

Young people are invited to come along to the registration nights on Monday 17 and Wednesday 19 September 2012, from 7.00 pm to 9.00 pm. A parent/guardian must accompany their child to complete and sign registration forms. There is a registration charge.

A schedule of engaging programmes and activities will become available throughout the youth club term.

Lakeland Youth Club offers a safe place where young people can relax, meet friends and take part in the various activities on offer. The youth club will be run by young people for young people. They will be given the important task of deciding on how the club is run and will receive support from WELB Youth Workers. Although all youth club members will be given this responsibility a group of 16-19 year olds will take the lead role. This group of Young Leaders spent the summer months completing an OCN course 'Leadership in Youth Work for Young People' to prepare themselves for this role.

Rachel Gilmore, WELB Youth Worker, said: "What's unique about this youth club is that young people, supported by WELB Youth Workers, will decide how the club is run. Of course there will be some limitations but we will work together to find a balance. This really is a great opportunity for young people to shape a service which affects them." She added: "WELB Youth Workers welcome new ideas and encourage suggestions from its members."

Lakeland Youth Centre also provides an after school drop-in service every Wednesday and Thursday, from 3.30 pm to 6.00 pm, which is open to young people, aged 14-18 years old. Young people can use the centre to relax and socialise with friends and to access quality advice and information. Once a month, a qualified driving instructor is available to help those interested prepare for the Driving Theory test, and every Wednesday, a Nurse is available to provide advice and treatment for young people who would like to stop smoking.
