Tractor driver seriously injured on road he muddied

A 21-year-old tractor driver who caused a road to become muddy and dangerous was quite seriously injured in a collision with a lorry, Fermanagh Court has heard.
Shane McNabb, of Aghnamore Road, Dromore, was fined £200 when he pleaded guilty to what District Judge Liam McNally described as a "very selfish and inconsiderate offence".
A prosecutor told the court that on Tuesday, May 15, police attended the scene of the crash at a bend on the Tummery Road at Dromore. There was a thick layer of mud on the road from the site of where a new house was being built. McNabb confirmed that he had been drawing mud from the site but said the mud might have been left by other vehicles. The lorry driver sustained injuries to his hand and both vehicles were written off.
Defence barrister, Miss Heather Philips, said the lorry driver accepted he was travelling at upwards of 40mph, the maximum permitted speed for his vehicle.
She told the court that on the day in question there were some soil deposits on the road, adding that McNabb tried to be very diligent in his employment. He was very regretful and remorseful about what happened and had learnt a very salutary lesson.
