A second rally in support of the Quinn family will take place in Ballyconnell on October 14.

The event organised by the Concerned Irish Citzens group will also highlight the economic downturn.

It comes as pledges of up to €2 million have been made to help the family pursue their legal battle with the former Anglo Irish Bank. The money is thought to have been donated by a number of individuals and businesses.

Meanwhile, the Quinn family have been granted a week's extension to an application that would compel them to hand over information to a receiver appointed over their assets.

The Irish Times reports that Mr Justice Peter Kelly gave Sean Quinn's four daughters, sons-in-law Stephen Kelly and Niall McPartland and daughter-in-law Karen Woods seven days to outline their objections to receiver Declan Taite of accountancy firm FGS and make an application to the court to remove him from that role.

Mr McPartland told the court that the family believed Mr Taite and his solicitors had conflicts of interest and they should be removed.
