The Quinn family are said to be "very relieved" after Sean Quinn Junior was released from Mountjoy Prison earlier today following his three month spell behind bars for contempt of court.

Father Gerry Comiskey, the family priest, says while the Quinns are thankful they are conscious of the fact that Sean Quinn Senior must return to the High Court in two weeks time and could be sent to jail.

He told impartialreporter.com: "The family are very relieved, there is no doubt about it, but what will happen in a fortnight's time is still to be played out. The general public in the Fermanagh and Cavan area are happy as well. There is a great public sigh of relief that Sean Junior is out."

Sean Quinn Senior's contempt case has been adjourned for two weeks.

The former businessman was due to be sentenced at Dublin's High Court for breaking court orders not to interfere with multi-million euro assets in the family's international property group (IPG).

But after the Irish Bank Resolution Corporation said "significant new material" had emerged which required consideration by the courts it was adjourned.

New lawyers for Mr Quinn told the court the one-time billionaire is keen to purge his contempt and is willing to work with the former Anglo Irish Bank.

Sean Quinn Junior who has been in Mountjoy Prison for the last three months was released from custody just after midday.

He was driven from the High Court with his wife Karen and father.
