EXCLUSIVE from inside Quinn camp: Dread at Sean spending Christmas locked up
SEAN Quinn was dreading prison, but knew today was inevitable.
The words of Father Gerry Comiskey who says Mr Quinn's family are "devastated" and "in shock" after the former businessman was handed a nine week prison sentence for contempt of court.
"There are no words to describe how they are feeling," said the priest, speaking to impartialreporter.com this afternoon.
"When I spoke to him he was emotional but defiant and wanted to get it over with. On the one hand he was dreading what seemed to be inevitable, but also anxious to get some resolution. I listened to him, I didn't say much - I will offer him advice and support when I see him at Mountjoy," he said.
Father Comiskey believes the family will "stick together and get through this".
"They are a very closely knit family, very loyal to each other, they have remarkable values. But I do know the fact that Christmas is looming will be devastating for them and will add to the anguish."
"It is incredulous that we are seeing all of this unfolding in front of our own eyes. All of those who know the history of what Sean Quinn has done for Fermanagh and to see it all collapsing is heartbreaking, as is the way in which he is being humiliated," he added.

Report commentHow does this work then? Does the Catholic Church espouse the values of those who defy the law of the land and hide half a billion of taxpayer's money? Does the Catholic Church criticise the Court when it tries to do something about it?

Report commentIt has to be asked why the Peter Jr has not the guts to face the music? Quite a spineless act on his behalf, how he has the nerve to show his face anywhere is unbelievable.

Report commentI think that its a total disgrace to see a man like Sean Quinn was thrown into jail last weekend, just, like a dog, and after all that Sean Quinn has done for so many people, from all denominations both north and south, in Counties like, Fermanagh, Cavan, Moneghan, Letrim, and as far away as the capital city of Dublin, the city of Cork, just to name a few places, the employment that he has created, the emigration he has stopped particularly around the border areas, just look at all the fancy houses there are, and some with 3/4 vehicles at them, also the increase of the population in areas that had became remote,as people had moved away because there was no work around
but thanks to Sean Quinn good foresight, people came back home from all over the globe, to settlen in the areas they had left, or there parents were born in,
simply because for the last 40 years this great man, the Mighty Quinn had the vision to invest, on many diferent levels of business, and skills thus creating oppertunities for people of all ages, male or female, catholis, protestant, polish, latvian, black or white, none of these things mattered, if you were suitable, and willing to work, there was a job for you, in some part of his business, and in most cases on peoples door step.
Just stop and think for a minute ? if there had been no Sean Quinn 40yrs ago ? were would all these 8000 people have gone to get employment ??????, Australia, England, America, or god knows where ?????
but people seem to forget very quickly, as long as they are all right, that is all that matters to them, But Sean Quinn, never thought that way, over the past 40years he was a very loyal, and honest employer, who paid his workers the going rate, there was no slave labour about quinns, if you done a days work, you got a days pay, no cutting, or short changing any of his employees,
i think it is a crime in itself, to see the way this good man has been treated, threw into jail at 66yrs of age, and coming up to christmas ???
he has a lovely wife and chilkdren, he isalso a grandfather,A dedicated, and devoted family man, does anyone with a heart, think he deserves to by lying in jail, and so many criminals running about the roads, Not forgettin these guys in the banks, all on big pensions, like the TD,s in the Dail, and part of the Irish Goverment, who along with the judichery, and the media all have crucified this good man and all his family, it is a crying shame, why are the Politicians, and MLA,s ? there silence is deafining ???
its not an election issue YET ?
Those who are critical of Sean Quinn, dont have a clue about the man, or his situation, if they did, they would be doing something, to show there support to Sean Quinn at this very critical time for both HIM, and his family, as each and everyone of us owe the quinns our gratitude, for all they have done for the past 4 decades.
I only hope that he gets his day of justice Real Soon, and that he will be back in his rightful place, at home with his family. O.j.

Report commentanyone who gambles more than he can afford to lose has no one to blame but themselves but to put his business and the jobs of his workers in jeopardy for the sake of making millions of pounds when he already had more than enough money is beyond belief, then to disobey the court rulings is just arrogance.
saying i was good before i was bad is not an answer.

The law says he is entitled to take his case against Anglo, and I hope he wins. The law also says he shouldn't be hiding any assets in the meantime.
Now, the question is, do we apply the law differently for the Mighty Quinn or is every man equal before the law?
Over to you.

Report commentyou have obviously your mind made up about sean quinn, and feels that he was just a greedy man, just out for himself ?? you say about putting workers jobs in jepordy ? who gave them there jobs in the very beginning, if there had been no Quinn in the first place, they might have had to go abroad to find work, certaintly not around the border areas.
i have no personal gains by giving my opinion on this issue, i nor any of my family have ever worked for any part of the quinn group,
but i know Sean Quinn personally well, and who i admire, and have had dealings with him, and had always found him to be a very honest, very very decent guy, no airs, or graces about him, just a very normal guy, who if you hadnt met him before, would realise he was ever a billionair , he was just a very average guy
And it should not be forgotten that he has paid his taxes to the state, on both sides of the border, he created an empire from nothing, r
Remember he started with a loan of £100 back in the early 70,s, and the same opening, and oppertunities was there for anyone that had the will, or foresight to see ahead, well we all know were he went from that first £100 he borrowed, he turned it into billions, not millions, he could settled on some tropical island with his family and enjoy the good life
But sean quinn, or his family werent that kind of people, as there interest over the years was very localised as they had created massive job oppertunities, in some many different sectors of there business empire, as so many people, of all shades, and colour got employment, any profits he made from the different parts of the business, he reinvested it in different ventures,, both at home, and some abroad,
he put up his hands and said he was greedy, and took gambles, of course he did take gambles 99% of his gambles paid of,
in hindsite you could say he was foolish you could say he shouldnt have got involved with a failing bank, but hindsite is a great thing, if we all had it, we would do nothing wrong ? would we ??
as for getting into debt with the banks, of course he borrowed big sums of money, but he never walked into the bank with a gun in his hand, or hood over his head and said to these So Clever Bankers (who knew everything, at least they thought they did), and said to them to Hand The Money Over To Me ?? they quite willingly handed it over to him, insisting to take more, it was like throwing confetti to him. So why is no one Blaming them rotten Bankers ?? after all they give him the money out quite freely ??
Why are none of them in jail ? yet Sean Quinn is ? and his only son after serving 3 months, and none of them other guys have served 3 minutes
you ask the question should the law be applied differently for the Might Quinn, then you say is every man equal before the law, sean quinn always paid all his taxes to the state, but they claimed he moved accets , since a certain date ? which he hasnt moved,
on the question of every man equal, which agree with ? so if every man is being treated equal as you say why has NO ONE other than the 2 Quinns, served 1 minute in jail ???
so were is the equality there ?????
please tell me O j
