A 32-year-old woman who drove out in front of a police car has told Fermanagh Court she had an eye infection and didn't see the patrol vehicle.

Justuna Paterek-Jaros, of Killynure Crescent, Enniskillen, was fined £150 and given four penalty points when she admitted driving carelessly.

A prosecutor told the court that at approximately 3.50pm on June 29, last year, police were travelling along Killynure Park in Enniskillen when a Volkswagen Passat driven by Paterek-Jaros pulled out of Killynure Crescent in front of them. The driver of the police car had to stop immediately to avoid a collision. Paterek-Jaros told them she had looked left and right and hadn't seen them.

"To me the road was clear," she stated.

She told them she then turned right and on looking in her rear-view mirror realised "I didn't see you".

District Judge Liam McNally said Paterek-Jaros had written a letter to the court stating that she had been driving for 14 years and was a really careful driver who had never been involved in a car crash. She said that at the time she had an eye infection.
