Roslea Shamrocks 1-05 Belcoo O’Rahilly’s 0-05 Roslea Shamrocks are the Fermanagh Senior Football Champions for the third time in four years after winning an entertaining final at Brewster Park on Sunday.

The key difference between the teams being Roslea’s clinical finishing mainly in the form of the superb Sean and Seamie Quigley while Belcoo will look to a missed penalty from Paul McGrath in the 48th minute when only trailing by a point and the game in the melting pot.

Belcoo also hit a post and kicked six wides in the first half when really putting it up to the hot favourites Roslea. At the other end, James McGrath made two superb saves in either half for Belcoo in what was an excellent game.

Overall though, the Shamrocks are seasoned at this level and never panicked when Belcoo were on top while James Sherry was superb in the second half, catching eight clean catches and leading his team to victory.

The gradually played their way into the game and Sean Quigley’s goal on the stroke of half time gave them a 1-04 to 0-05 lead they were not to relinquish.

The Shamrocks edged ahead early in the second half with Sean and Seamie Quigley hitting points for fun to lead before a goal from Stephen Maguire to level the game after the ball rebounded off the upright to make it 1-06 to 1-06 with over 20 minutes left.

Sean Quigley and Seamie Quigley then edged Roslea back in front before a Paul McGrath point in reply left one between the teams at 1-08 to 1-07 before the penalty incident that was to prove so crucial.

Stephen Maguire was fouled while shooting at goal and referee Noel Davis signalled for a pen but Paul McGrath’s resultant kick was poorly struck and Sean Boyle saved.

The game was not over at this point but with 12 minutes to go, but the experienced Shamrocks kept to their gameplan and hit three unanswered points to take a decisive four point lead.

Sean Quigley from play and two from Seamie Quigley, including a 55m free off the ground gave the Roslea a 1-11 to 1-07 lead with four minutes remaining.

Kieran Leonard pointed to leave a goal between the sides entering injury time but a Seamie Quigley free put four between the teams and while Maguire hit a late free for Belcoo the New York Cup was going back to Roslea in their 125th year on a final scoreline of 1-12 to 1-09.
