Planning applications for an extra 14 wind turbines on three different locations around Fermanagh have been received by the Planning Service.

One of the applications is for an additional three turbines at Ora More Wind Farm in the townlands of Killycreen East and Killycreen West near Belcoo which if approved and constructed would produce 6MW of electricity, the equivalent of the requirements of 3,800 homes a year.

The application has been lodged by Res UK and Ireland which is already operating the existing Ora More Wind Farm with six turbines, as well as wind farms at Lendrum’s Bridge and Callagheen.

Two other applications have been lodged by TCI Renewables including Derrynaveigh Wind Farm, a short distance north of Irvinestown at Drumbulcan where they envisage seven turbines powering the equivalent electricity used by 3,716 homes and a four-turbine Garranbane wind farm west of Tempo. This wind farm would generate sufficient electricity to power up to 5,693 homes.

The turbines in most of the applications would rise to around 125 metres above ground.

The extensive construction phase involved in all three sites would lead to dozens of jobs.

All applications have been accompanied by environmental statements.
