The 32-year-old driver of a car from which there was a strong smell of cannabis has admitted unlawfully having the Class B drug.

Stephen Galbraith, of Floraville, Enniskillen, also pleaded guilty at Fermanagh Court to the illegal possession of the Class C drug diazepam.

He further admitted not having an MoT certificate.

He was fined £250.

A prosecutor told the court that on Tuesday, February 18, police stopped Galbraith driving a Vauxhall Astra at Tamlaght on the main Enniskillen to Lisbellaw road. The MoT certificate had expired and there was a strong smell of cannabis from the vehicle. It was searched and a small quantity of the drug was found scattered on the seat. A strip of 10 diazepam tablets worth £5 was discovered in the glove compartment.

Defence solicitor Reggie Ferguson said Galbraith readily admitted the drugs were his. He was a “very irregular user of cannabis” and while the diazepam tablets were in his car they weren’t his. That had been confirmed by the person to whom they belonged, who got them on prescription but who wasn’t in the car at the time.
