The only reason a 54-year-old disabled man was driving was because it was raining and he was collecting his 15-year-old daughter from school, Fermanagh Court has been told.

Antony Poulton, of Castlebalfour Road, Lisnaskea, was fined £250 and banned from driving for six months when he admitted that he didn’t have a licence nor insurance.

A prosecutor told the court that on Thursday, May 1, police on mobile patrol in Lisnaskea saw Poulton driving a red Mazda on the Brookeborough Road. A radio check revealed there was no insurance on the vehicle. They asked Poulton for his licence and insurance. He said he had the documents but didn’t have them with him. He was given time to produce them at Lisnaskea Police Station. On Saturday, May 24, officers called at his home to ask him if there was any reason why he hadn’t produced the documents. He then admitted he was not insured.

Defence solicitor Neil Ferguson said the only reason Poulton was driving was because it was raining and he was going to collect his daughter from school. His wife was insured and would normally have driven but she wasn’t available.
