WHEN Enniskillen born actor Charlie Lawson returned to filming for Coronation Street earlier this summer he was surprised to find a little piece of home with him on set.

Famous for his fiery character Jim McDonald from the cobbled streets, Charlie is set to return to the soap initially for a three month period in August.

And during a break between filming scenes at Trafford Wharf in Manchester the Fermanagh man was pleased to learn that some of the set had been sourced from Balcas in his home County.

“In between scenes I was looking at the set and saw ‘Balcas Timber’ on some of the wood,” he told the Impartial Reporter, “I thought, ‘What a small world it is’. It reminded me of home.” With Jim currently behind bars after being found guilty of an armed robbery, Charlie’s scenes have been focusing on the loveable rogue’s time in prison.

Describing his return to the soap as “like riding a bike”, Charlie says he was so taken by his on-set discovery that he phoned Balcas to tell them.

Richard Greenaway Sales and Marketing Director with the Group said: “Balcas recently received a surprise phone call from Enniskillen born actor Charlie Lawson aka Jim McDonald of Coronation Street fame, to let us know that he had spotted Balcas branded timber being used on the set he was filming on in Trafford Wharf Manchester.

“A bit of investigation work traced the supply of the product from Balcas customer Travis Perkins who have a branch in Salford not far from the film set. Balcas have been producing timber for the construction, fencing and pallet and packaging markets in England and Ireland for over 25 years and in that time have established a large distribution network for our products.

“It is always pleasing to hear that our brand has been recognised when it reaches its final end use, we have worked very hard at promoting our products and when you get calls like this it reinforces our commitment to further promoting the Balcas brand in the market place.”
