LISBELLAW mum, Donella Meade is asking Fermanagh to ‘go the distance’ for two local cancer charities this weekend.

Both Cancer Fund for Children and Cancer Connect NI have been close to Donella’s heart since her daughter, Naomi, was diagnosed with a cancer several years ago.

And now she is hoping her latest fundraiser, a Fun Cycle, barbecue and disco this Saturday will help to raise money and awareness for both charities.

The 90 mile fun cycle can be undertaken by individuals or by teams of cyclists, who wish to share the distance between them.

Registration will open at Lisbellaw parish centre at 7am on Saturday and cyclists will set off at 8am, with the route as follows: Lisbellaw, Enniskillen, Belleek, Belcoo, Garrison, Blacklion, Florencecourt, Kinawley, Derrylin, Lisnaskea, Maguiresbridge, and back to Lisbellaw.

There is a £20 registration fee per person and participants are asked to raise sponsorship which will be divided equally between the two charities.

The event will be followed by an evening get together, family barbecue, disco and raffle at the Wild Duck Inn, Lisbellaw.

Donella explained: “I was initially approached by the Lisbellaw Community Group who wanted to organise an event to support local charities. Thomas Orr, Andrew Hicks, Harold Crawford and Richard Gamble had the initial idea for the cycle and barbecue and have worked so hard to pull the whole event together. They have been absolutely fantastic and committed so much time and effort – I really can’t thank them enough.

“The aim is to raise a lot of money for these two local charities. The local business community have been very supportive and donated lots of fantastic prizes for the raffle. We are expecting a great turnout for all of the events and would encourage people to register their place for the cycle and book tickets for the barbeque and disco as soon as possible.” For more information, contact Harold Crawford 07745301587 or Donella Meade 07835438922.
