The 27-year-old driver of a car detected travelling at 107mph along the Killadeas Road from Enniskillen towards Kesh has been fined £250 and given four penalty points.

Joseph James Matthew Brown, of Rossfad Road, Ballinamallard, appeared at Fermanagh Court and admitted exceeding the general 60mph speed limit.

A prosecutor explained that at 12.30pm on Monday, June 23, police detected Brown driving at 107mph. He told the officers “I’m working under extreme conditions” and that he had to get home to get a part and fix a burst pipe.

Defence solicitor Bernard Corrigan said Brown has a car wash business operating 12 hours a day, seven days a week. He commutes from his home in a rural area to Enniskillen and also has to transport employees to and from work.

Deputy District Judge Liam McStay said Brown had previous convictions. They were for speeding and no other offence.

“That is your issue,” he told Brown.

He described it as a “disastrously high speed” and a “very, very poor piece of driving”.

However, he said he was taking into account a reference, Brown’s admission of guilt and what had been said in respect of his business. He reminded him that to get to work he needed a licence.
