Ballinamallard remain second from bottom of the Danske Bank Premiership after they went down 4-0 to champions Cliftonville at Ferney Park today.

Whitey Anderson's side went into the game with three draws and one defeat from their opening four games and their wait for a first league win of the season goes on after they played second fiddle to a clinical Cliftonville outfit.

The Reds came blasting out of the blocks, playing some superb football in the opening 30 minutes as they raced into a 2-0 lead.

The visitors opened the scoring in the 15th minute as George McMullan tucked home from the penalty spot after Mark Stafford had taken down the lively Davy McDaid.

And Cliftonville were to double their lead in the 32nd minute as former Mallard Chris Curran flicked the ball over the head of Stafford and coolly rounded Mallards goalkeeper Fergal Murphy before slotting home.

The home side did have a good spell either side of the break with Cathal Beacom driving over while both Anthony Elding and Ryan Campbell hit the side-netting.

However, two goals in three minutes put the outcome beyond doubt. Joe Gormley headed home in the 71st minute and McDaid lifted the ball over Murphy three minutes later to make it 4-0 as Cliftonville moved to the top of the table.

Ballinamallard must now put this result behind them as they prepare to go to Glenavon on Tuesday night in an important league encounter.
