FERMANAGH District Council has secured government funding to develop a historical walking tour of Enniskillen Town Centre.

During the latest Development Committee meeting it was revealed that funding from the Department of Social Development (DSD) had been received for the installation of a historical trail plaque.

Committee members were informed that part of the tour would incorporate an “innovative and attractive app” along with information plaques to point out historical locations throughout the town centre.

The app will interactively guide the visitor from a starting location at Enniskillen Castle Museum and the walk will incorporate approximately 27 historical points of interest throughout the town centre which would be identified by an information plaque (also funded by DSD).

To undertake the works, the Council will have to seek the approval of the owners, both private and public, of all the buildings included in the tour, to erect a small plaque on or near their premises.

During the Development Committee meeting it was recommended that the Council adopt the plaques for maintenance, proceed with developing the works outlined on Roads Service land, once approval had been obtained, and proceed with works on Fermanagh District Council owned property to facilitate the implementation of the scheme.
