‘Whatty-ye-call-him’ Meaning: A phrase uttered when the name of a gentleman is on the tip of your tongue but you can’t quite remember it. Despite this you proceed, offering up useless information and expecting the person you are engaging with to know who you are talking about.

Bob to Charlie: “Did you hear about yer man down the road? Dead this two weeks”.

Charlie to Bob: “Who’s dead this two weeks?” Bob to Charlie: “Yer man. He’s a brother of yer woman who used to run the post office. Mind, she used to keep the chrysanthemums in the bucket. Her brother. Whatty-ye-call-him”.

Charlie to Bob: “Who?” Bob to Charlie: “You know him surely. He broke the arm the same time Barbara went in to have the ankles looked at. The weather was cat. Whatty-ye-call-him”.

Charlie to Bob: “Who are you on about?” Bob to Charlie: “Yer man. He had the Jack Russell with the one eye. Whatty-ye-call-him”.
