A motorcyclist with a provisional licence, who carried a passenger who was not wearing a helmet and sped away from police was fined £200 and received five penalty points.
Martin Maguire, 24, from Old Henry Street, Enniskillen admitted driving the motorcycle at Westville Terrace on April 12 while carrying a female passenger.
Fermanagh Court heard that police on mobile patrol at Westville Terrace saw a Honda motorcycle driven by a male, carrying a female passenger who was not wearing a helmet. The motorcycle was displaying L plates and when police flashed their blue lights, it made off at speed to Hollyhill Carpark, where the female got off. the motorcycle. The driver continued into Holyhill where he was stopped by police.
Defence solicitor Barry Lynam told Fermanagh Court that Maguire had been chatting the female passenger when she jumped on the bike and wouldn’t get off. “He foolishly drove off,” Mr. Lynam said.
District Judge Nigel Broderick gave Maguire a £200 fine and five penalty points, saying: “He has a poor record and didn’t do himself any favours in driving away from police.”
