A 24-year-old football coach has been fined £250 and banned from driving for a month for speeding.

Samantha Cheshire, of Station Road, Derrycormick, Enniskillen, admitted exceeding the 60mph general speed limit.

She was granted bail to appeal against the sentence.

A prosecutor told Fermanagh Court that on Wednesday, July 16, police were checking the speeds of vehicles on the main A4 Enniskillen to Belfast road at Tamlaght. Shortly after 1am they detected Cheshire driving towards Tamlaght at 90mph.

Defence solicitor Julie Cooper said Cheshire has been driving for seven years and her licence is essential to her. She is a very active member of a football club and requires her licence for work and to get to coaching sessions. She was driving home from a friend’s house at the time and offers no excuse for her behaviour.

District Judge Nigel Broderick said he would take Cheshire’s employment and coaching responsibilities into consideration, however “anyone who drives at in or around 90mph can expect to be disqualified”.
