Roslea and Derrygonnelly will battle it out for the Manor House SFL Division One title on Sunday after the sides that finished first and second in the table both came through their respective semi-finals last weekend.

The Shamrocks over came St. Pat’s to book their spot in the final and are looking to secure a league and championship double on Sunday when they face the Harps but key attacker Sean Quigley knows his side will be in for a major test at Brewster Park.

“I don’t think anyone can be classed as favourites as Sunday see’s two very good sides coming together. Derrygonnelly were convincing winners over Devenish while we just about scrapped through. We will prepare for the game as best as we can and hopefully it works for us.” Quigley continued: “Derrygonnelly have some really outstanding forwards who are going to be a considerable threat to us and our defence is going to have to be on top of their game to try and curtail them as best as possible. Sunday was a very open game of football but it won’t be like that this week. We are looking forward to the game and it’s up to us to put in a performance.” Derrygonnelly defender Eamon McHugh, who has again caught the eye this season, knows he and his Harps teammates will face a serious examination against a quality Roslea outfit.

“We know that were going into the game as underdogs. It won’t be easy, we know we’re facing one of the best sides in Ulster let alone Fermanagh.

“We got the rub of the green on Sunday with some terrific goals but we won’t get that sort of space on Sunday. Roslea are a strong defensive side who only conceded the one goal in this year’s championship. They have a well drilled system that we need to try and break down. Patience on our part is vital and of course stopping the Quigley brothers. It should make for an interesting spectacle.” Roslea come into the game high in confidence after clinching a third SFC title in four years and will no doubt be favourites to make it a double by collecting the Division One title as well. The Shamrocks have been clinical all season and have accounted for a grand total of 26 goals in 18 league games while also having the third best defence in the league. Managers Mark Harte and Adrian O’Donnell have also hit the ground running after taking over from Peter McGinnity and will know that they will need their side going right from the very off to keep a lid on a quick and pacey Derrygonnelly side.

Derrygonnelly have enjoyed a great league campaign this year and will be keen to add a first league title since 2002. There is no shortage of quality in this Derrygonnelly side with players like Eamon McHugh, Michael Jones, Declan Cassidy and Tiarnan Daly providing the basis of a solid defence.

At midfield they will need a big performance from Ryan Jones, who is a key player for the Harps, in that battle for possession in the middle third while further forward Paul Greene’s side will look to sharp-shooters Paul Ward and Johnny McGurn for the bulk of their scores with the experienced Kevin Cassidy also an important player in the forward line.

As always, Roslea will look to forwards Seamus and Sean Quigley to keep their sides scoring tally ticking over throughout the contest. Blessed with great strength, both have an eye for goal and will be a major test for the likes of Stephen Burns and Michael Jones. The Shamrocks will also look to the likes of Niall Cosgrove and Shane Lynch to chip in with scores. At midfield, Roslea have the tried and trusted pairing of experienced duo James Sherry and Kevin Cosgrove while a solid defence is led by Peter Sherry, Conor Quigley and Niall Casssidy with the likes of James McMahon and Conor Mulligan others who have performed well over the course of the season.

Roslea went to Derrygonnelly way back in June and came away with a hard earned 3-08 to 0-11 win in a hard hitting game. The return game was a non-spectacle. With both sides already assured of a semi-final spot a full strength Derrygonnelly side dismantled a second string Roslea side who had a Championship semi-final looming, by 6-14 to 2-06.

Roslea had problems defensively last week and certainly can’t allow the likes of Ward and Jones the same space that was afforded to the St. Pat’s attackers last week while Derrygonnelly’s ability to play a running game could give the Shamrocks difficulties.

From Derrygonnelly’s perspective, they will need to fully nullify the threat of the Quigley brothers and that is a big ask. Both sides will be determined to get their hands on silverware on Sunday and ultimately the side that can win enough ball in the middle section and supply quality ball to two talented attacks should be lifting the Division One league crown on Sunday evening.
