A 32-year-old unemployed man’s dealings with the police caused him great distress and he has decided not to get a driving licence.

Evin Murray, of Mount Darby Road, Rosslea, pleaded guilty at Fermanagh Court to driving without insurance, “L” plates and the supervision of a qualified driver.

He was fined £150 and given eight penalty points.

A prosecutor told the court that on Tuesday, June 10, police were operating a vehicle check point at the junction of the Lackey and Dernawilt roads near Rosslea. They stopped Murray driving a Renault Clio. He had a provisional licence, was alone in the vehicle and was not displaying “L” plates. He said he was not sure if the was insured or not.

Defence solicitor Myles McManus said Murray’s partner had insurance that covered the vehicle and Murray was a named driver on the policy. However, the insurance company had confirmed that because he was not accompanied by a qualified driver he would not have been covered in the event of a crash.

Mr. McManus said Murray’s dealings with the police have caused him great distress and he does not intend to get a licence and has not driven since.
