‘Ate the head off’ Meaning: This is not said when describing in detail how you may start by devouring a jelly baby, for example. This is said to describe somebody who has roared at you for doing something bad.
Example: Bob to Charlie: “The wife is in Bundoran with Barbara. You know Barbara? Her with the one eye. She asked me to fix the leg of the chair when she was away”.
Charlie to Bob: “Barbara from the cross? Did you do it?” Bob to Charlie: “Aye, her. I made an awful oul hames (mess) of it, so I did”.
Charlie to Bob: “You did not hi. Yer a quare oul cod”.
Bob to Charlie: “Don’t I know it. She’ll ate the head off me when she comes home, so she will”.
