Two men arrested by police on suspicion of drugs related offences have been released on bail. Following a planned search of a property in the Main Street area of Belleek yesterday afternoon, police had arrested two males aged 26 and 31.

Cannabis plants with an estimated street value in excess of £7,000 and cultivating equipment have been seized.

Commenting on the seizure Detective Chief Inspector Derek Scott said: "The cultivation of cannabis can happen anywhere. It can pose a number of risks, not only to anyone tending the plants, but to the local community. There are also serious potential public safety risks in cannabis cultivation, most factories illegally abstract large amounts of electricity needed for cultivation, sometimes in the crudest and potentially most dangerous ways. There is a significant threat of fire with cannabis factories. A house full of electric fans and heaters, combined with water, is an obvious fire risk. People who run cannabis factories have in the past, been found to tamper with electricity supplies in a very amateurish fashion. Put all of these ingredients together and you have a recipe for disaster. You have a great potential for destruction of property, serious injury, even death. Cannabis Factories are being uncovered in many different properties, from 1 bedroom flats and houses through to large disused commercial properties.
