Peter Duffy, the brother of former bishop of Clogher Joseph Duffy, has died whilst visiting family in Switzerland.

Originally from County Monaghan, Mr. Duffy lived in Enniskillen and was Vice Chair of the Western Education and Library Board (WELB).

He was also Vice Chair of the governing body of Willowbridge School.

A retired senior management officer with CCMS, Mr. Duffy was a WELB member representative of the Trustees of Maintained Schools.

Mr. Duffy was also Chairman of the Association of Friends of Fermanagh County Museum.

Described as "a friend" of Enniskillen, Mr. Duffy was a member of the Fermanagh Choral Society and a member of the 11am St. Michael’s Parish choir. He was an active member of St. Michael’s Parish, Enniskillen, particularly in the parish bereavement group.

Paying tribute to Mr. Duffy, Monsignor Peter O’Reilly, PP tells Impartial Reporter.com: "We were shocked and deeply saddened to hear of the sudden and unexpected death of the late Peter Duffy. Our hearts go out in sympathy to his sons and to his surviving brothers.

"I’ve known Peter Duffy for many years, initially through his role in CCMS.

"Peter Duffy was a community man, through and through. What will strike many about him is the wide range and depth of his work in our local community. His dedication was remarkable, and all people-centred."

Monsignor O'Reilly recalls: "Whenever he met you, it was rarely a passing greeting. He took care to remember what mattered to people and he always made careful enquiry about how you were, about how some project was going, about how some particular thing had turned out. People have described him as a gentleman, which he undoubtedly was. Our Enniskillen community has lost a friend."

Funeral arrangements are not yet available.
