Marking a golden milestone in business this year, Modern Tyres has just revealed there will be another addition to its network as the company continues to expand.

The first acquisition of 2015 will see the company, which has its headquarters in Fermanagh, purchase a depot in the Dublin area in the coming weeks, expanding its presence in the Republic of Ireland. As the largest independent tyre retailer in Ireland, Modern Tyres employs approximately 200 people in its 40 branches across Ireland.

The family business has gone from strength to strength over the past 50 years through organic growth and acquisition, including the £1 million deal to purchase 11 Hanover Depots in Ireland in 2013.

Coinciding with its expansion news, Modern Tyres was recently named as one of the fastest-growing and most dynamic small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the UK by the London Stock Exchange Group.

Group General Manager, Charles Corscadden, commenting on Modern Tyres’ plans to continue to expand its network, explained: “Modern Tyres has been a hugely successful company since its inception by Jimmy Byrne in 1965. Strategic acquisitions, solid partnerships with tyre manufacturers and an unrivalled level of customer service have enabled us to grow into Ireland’s largest independent tyre retailer.” He added: “In our fiftieth year, it was important to take stock and celebrate the successes of the business, but more significant was our focus on the future and commitment to growth, plans are already underway for new acquisitions strengthening our position in the market.” Modern Tyres was founded by Jimmy Byrne in 1965 in the Old Railway Yard in Enniskillen, and it is in Enniskillen that the company has its headquarters today, at Tempo Road. The company is still family owned and run with the assistance of four sons and a daughter.

At the company’s conference to mark its fiftieth year, mentalist David Meade joined the Byrne family and General Manager, Charles Corscadden, in celebrating Modern Tyres’ golden milestone. Attended by over 150 employees, David Meade entertained the crowd with his mind-blowing acts and inspirational keynote address. All of Modern Tyres’ 40 depots across Ireland are fast-fit centres and in Ireland, Modern Tyres also owns a tyre wholesale company, D26 Tires.

In late 2014, the company was named ‘Northern Ireland Tyre Retailer of the Year 2015’ at the Irish Auto Trade Awards.
