Liberty Insurance is to cut 270 jobs from its operations in Cavan, Dublin and Enniskillen.

Twenty jobs will go in Enniskillen, 115 in Cavan (where many Fermanagh people are employed) and 135 in Dublin.

The Enniskillen call centre which employs 210 people will be outsourced to a third party company that specialises in customer management. The tendering process is understood to be at an advanced stage and once completed, services staff will move onto a contract with the new provider with one year's protection on the same terms.

Staff in Enniskillen, Cavan, Dublin were briefed by management this morning.

The voluntary redundancies will offer four weeks' pay for every year of service in addition to statutory redundancy.

The company employs 625 in Cavan and Enniskillen.

Liberty bought the old Quinn Insurance business four years ago.

In 2012, 70 people were made redundant in Enniskillen, 75 in Cavan and 140 in Dublin.

In 2014 Chief Executive patrick O'Brien resigned and County Down native Tom McIlduff took over.

It is understood that the job losses are a consequence of the decision by Liberty to pull out of the UK motor insurance market where it has been losing money.
