BIRD lovers could be flocking to the Round ‘O’ if a proposal by Fermanagh and Omagh District Council to introduce a waterfowl food dispenser fits the bill.

The dispenser, which would operate as a pilot scheme, would be filled with RSPB approved food pellets which people could purchase for a small cost, probably 20p, to feed the ducks.

The company offering its services has also proposed to erect an information panel with details of varieties of ducks and waterfowl to be seen in the vicinity and information about the reasons why it is important to provide a more nutrient, mineral and vitamin appropriate diet that the birds need for healthy growth and development.According to a recent Policy and Resources Committee meeting, once the pilot scheme finishes at the end of September, the company will analyse the costs and viability of the facility and present a further proposal to the Council for consideration.

The recommendation, which is subject to ratification at the Council meeting next month, approved the erection of a waterfowl food dispenser and information panel on a pilot scheme basis.
