Ballinamallard United will be hoping to build on Saturday's fine win over Glentoran at the Oval when they host Glenavon tonight (Wednesday) night at Ferney Park.

Mallards boss Whitey Anderson feels that the 2-0 victory over the Glens will see his side go into the game against the Lurgan Blues in a confident frame of mind as they look to record back to back wins for their first time this season.

“We trained Monday night and confidence was high,” he said. “There was a great atmosphere about the club and a great buzz about the players, it is amazing what a win does for players and the team as a whole.” However, Anderson expects a tough examination for his side against a Glenavon side that currently sit fifth in the table.

“We know it is going to be tough, Glenavon are an excellent side who score a lot of goals and you have to play extremely well against them. You have to nullify their threat and hopefully then you can cause them problems going forward,” he commented.

The Mallards will still be without midfield pair James McKenna and Shane McCabe for the game but he does hope to welcome a few players back to the squad for the Ferney Park clash.

“James McKenna will start training this week after picking up a knock to the knee last Tuesday and Shane McCabe is suspended but he is hopefully going for a scan this week on the back of his knee. Hopefully though we will have Johnny Lafferty back in the squad as well as John Currie.” Currie returned to the club after a work placement in Germany didn't work out for the midfielder.

“It was disappointing for John that things didn't work out but he made an early decision and he has returned home and we are obviously delighted that he wanted to sign straight back again. He is a quality player who came through the system at the club and he's a fans favourite,” added Whitey.

And the Mallards boss is hoping that a large crowd will come along to Ferney Park to watch what he hopes will be an entertaining contest.

“We are hoping that with a Wednesday night fixture we can get people out and they will hopefully see a decent game. Like I say, whenever Glenavon play there is usually goals but hopefully it will be us that will be doing the scoring! “There is certainly players on both sides who can provide entertainment for local people to come and watch the highest standard of football there is in the country,” he said.
