What makes our communities special places to live?

Not only the work of statutory and voluntary organisations and groups but also a great number of volunteers who week by week, ensure that senior citizens have recreational activities to attend or young people have the opportunity to display their creative talents.

Of course there are many more examples and it will be these that the Fermanagh Trust, in partnership with The Impartial Reporter, want to hear about for their new initiative to celebrate and acknowledge 20 inspirational community heroes whose kindness, ingenuity and voluntary input have made Fermanagh a better place to live.

This is a great way to honour those individuals who give rather than take, go the extra mile to help those around them doing the very best work which goes largely unnoticed and unrewarded.

They might come from sport, music or drama or simply through their encouragement of community development.

Their story should be told because it is fitting that people’s contribution to community work is recognised.

The 20 community heroes will be feted at the Fermanagh Trust’s special 20th anniversary celebrations on October 13.

However to help get your nominee on the stage of the Ardhowen Theatre that night, make sure you send in your nomination to Fermanagh Trust by September 4.

Fermanagh Trust has spearheaded many community initiatives themselves over the 20 years, helping to bring both sides of the community together in all aspects of life.
