We could all learn a little from the caring selflessness of a four-year-old from Maguiresbridge.

Little Aoife Curry got her beautiful blonde hair cut yesterday so that it can be turned into a wig for someone who has lost their hair due to cancer treatment.

An amazing gesture for anyone, but quite something for a little girl of such a young age.

Her mature response to the information she had received about the side-effects of cancer treatment was to calmly express the desire to help out children who have cancer.

Her attitude was summed up by her mother who reported: “She wants to give her hair to the little children who have none”.

Unsurprisingly, the staff at the playgroup she attends are tremendously proud of her. Her kindness and generosity are an example to us all.

In fact the work of the charity, the Little Princess Trust, must also be commended.

The Little Princess Trust is a children’s cancer charity with a mission to supply real-hair wigs to children suffering with cancer, for the duration of their treatment. In addition the charity also assists children with other conditions which also result in hair loss, such as alopecia.

If our future is in the hands of children like Aoife, it gives us much hope for the future.
