Dear Madam, - Despite its many intrusions into everyday life in Northern Ireland, we must also recognise that the EU we live in today is better connected by road, rail, air and sea than ever before. This presents people right across our Province with the freedom and opportunity to travel abroad with friends and family on holiday, or to pursue business relationships.

As we near the end of the school year, and with families and young people jetting off on holiday, it is important that those travelling abroad have all of the information and resources needed to make their trip safe, simple and enjoyable. That is why I have launched my newest advice guide - ‘Signposts to support when travelling in the EU.’ It is the third in my latest ‘Signposts to Support’ series, and the seventh overall publication that I have produced since becoming an MEP.

My factsheet provides tips in seven key areas of travel: passenger rights, health and travel, airport security and documents, driving abroad, securing accommodation, currency and charges, and advice in an emergency.

This covers useful resources including the Foreign Commonwealth Office Travel Advice Service and the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC). There are also links to free EU apps for checking whether you can claim compensation for interrupted travel and getting important country-specific tips for driving abroad.

Whether it be making the ordeal at the airport that little bit easier, or ensuring that you are protected if something goes wrong, I hope that this guide can go some way to making journeys to Europe a more enjoyable experience for people living locally.

To access a copy of my new guide, please visit www.dianedodds.co.uk or alternatively telephone my office in Lisburn on 02892667733.
