Dear Sir: While there is not much politically that I agree with Tom Elliott, I must admit that his stance toward Eames-Bradley is correct and that the recommendations are "unacceptable and unworkable". There indeed cannot be comparison between victim's families and that of families of terrorists. As Tom Elliott says "No such parallel can exist". Tom raises another issue concerning employing convicted terrorist in the future.
However; did no-one tell Tom Elliott that perpetrators of violence are employed within the Westminster Parliament, Stormont Assembly and the Local Councils, two of which he serves. Sadly, these people have not been excluded from Public Office. Would Al-Qaeda suspects be given similar preferential treatment in Westminster Parliament? I think not. Tom Elliott and his Fermanagh South Tyrone DUP colleague, Arlene Foster props up the most 'vile' political regime in the Western World; a terrorist inclusive Government. Must we now equate democratic politicians with those who accessed power through the barrel of a gun? Is it that "No such parallel can exist" or can it in your eyes Tom? After all, you all support the same political regime.
Tom Elliott appears to have brushed aside his hard-line approach of alleged opposition to the Belfast Agreement when he accepted 'Government before Guns' under David Trimble within a terrorist inclusive political structure. From that the UUP destroyed itself from within and not as Sam Foster believes. After many attempts to topple Trimble, Tom Elliott's then political allies, Arlene Foster and Jeffrey Donaldson jumped ship to join the DUP, but guess what, when power sharing with IRA/Sinn Fein beckoned, Foster and Donaldson grasped it with both hands.
May I remind you both(Elliott, Foster) that your partners in Stormont set out many years ago to destroy our country through murder, bombings, shooting and maiming of innocent Roman Catholics, Protestant, Police and Soldiers. Fermanagh-South Tyrone lost many decent respectable people at the hands of your new found allies; IRA/Sinn Fein. But since the 'bad old days', DUP and UUP have pandered to criminals giving IRA/Sinn Fein credence in sharing control of our country within a rigged devolved system. Power has been achieved through murder, violence and Unionist weakness from DUP and UUP. IRA/Sinn Fein have already destroyed our Police Service (RUC), Military service (RIR) and education system and now want their blood-soaked hands on Policing and Justice. The same Policing and Justice system they attempted to destroy for years through a callous murderous campaign.
I have rarely heard any words of condemnation recently from either of you (Foster, Elliott) to remind IRA/Sinn Fein of the brutality they inflicted on our people in the name of political freedom for their beloved Ireland. Is it perhaps too painful to remind them or maybe it's unethical for you to do so within such an 'honourable political system'?
Thankfully there are 66,000 people in Northern Ireland who will remind you both at the next Council and Assembly election as I believe both your Constituencies/Wards will have Traditional Unionist candidates.
So Tom, step down from the high moral ground; no need to rally the troops any longer; your battle with IRA/Sinn Fein appears to be over.
Yours faithfully,
Integrity before Power
