Dear Sir, - We must have the right to respond to Roisin Jackman's letter, in which she likened our peaceful, Christian witness for Biblical marriage to the activities of the extremist group, Westboro Baptist Church. There was and is no comparison. She surely knew that it was extremely unfair (and outrageous) to link us with that group. We wish to make it clear that we are opposed to the hateful protests of Westboro Baptist Church, they are sadly lacking in compassion for those they protest about.

Later in her letter, Miss/Mrs. Jackman states, "What people find so offensive about homosexuality, I'll never know." We find this comment incredible. It is a fact that sexually transmitted diseases (including AIDS) is rampant in the 'gay' community. Homosexual acts are not acts of love, they are acts of violence (they are privately in their own bedrooms, killing each other) and no Christian can condone violence. Those trapped in that lifestyle, and non-homosexual sinners need to repent, forsake their sin and seek salvation from a merciful Saviour.

Homosexuality is primarily offensive because it is a sin against an all-good, infinitely loving God who desires only what is best for his creation. AIDS, suicide, despair, etc... are merely symptoms. Mankind is made for a holy and beautiful purpose, and the creator desires only holy marriage to be the setting for sexual activity which is open to life, and the union of spouses: one man and one woman. All other sexual activity is sinful. Homosexual acts distort the meaning of human sexuality. Homosexual acts harm the individuals who commit them as well as having a bad effect on the society.

As the Catholic Catechism states:

''They (homosexual acts) are contrary to the natural law. They close the sexual act to the gift of life. They do not proceed from a genuine affective and sexual complementarity. Under no circumstances can they be approved.''

We must present to all people the full truth of the Gospel of Jesus Christ - this is true liberation, true freedom. If there is one thing lacking in the efforts of some Christians, it is the tendency to merely bash people with scripture quotes, rather than offer them the loving truth of the Gospel, which will liberate them from narcissism, destructive self-love, grave sin, and therefore lead them to everlasting life and happiness with God, who loves them.

People like these two make me SICK. As a heterosexual female it disgruntles, angers and deeply upsets me that people believe such rubbish. Homosexuality is not a choice; it's not something you wake up one day and decide you would like to be. I understand everyone is entitled to their own opinion but this is just ridiculous. It is thanks to pathetic, closed minded individuals such as the Whites that hate and prejudice is rife and as a result we can't move on. WAKE UP.

Pauline, it would be really great if you could stop making assumptions; I HAVE read the bible for a start off. I think the fact you're urging me to read it to 'learn' is rather rich as you are unwilling to open up enough to learn about homosexuality, as it is today in the 21st century. As for 'gays' 'wanting into schools' I don't know anything of this. I do, however, recall in 3rd year being forced to listen to some christians at school and then forced to take a gideon bible...do you christians, then, not have some sort of agenda? Are you saying that anti-bullying videos which demonstrate someone being victimised for their sexuality shouldn't be as relevant as others?

Bullying anyone is wrong, but brainwashing teens about their sexuality is also gravely wrong. The homosexualist agenda IS evil. Young people's sexuality is a work in progress. Bullying can damage it, and so can gay propaganda. But the God-ordained norm is heterosexuality. Anything else is indicative of something amiss, and I say this with great respect for any person who has this. These people need love, care, and the truth so they can be free, not lies which bind them in fetters.

I was previously cautious of using the term 'brainwashing' but as it has been brought up in reference to homosexuality; I now feel I should mention that Christians, too, have brainwashed many people, just look at cults. If bullying anyone is wrong, why are you people singling out, alienating, condeming and ultimately bullying people based on their sexuality? Pauline clearly feels it is wrong to use anti-gay messages in bullying campaign videos and this is quite saddening. Did God not believe that all man were created equal, and teach those who choose Christianty to love everyone? Furthermore, does God not forgive everyone of their sins...since homosexuality is seen as a sin in your eyes? I looked at the story but surely this was provoked in some way. It's often hard for a community who are persecuted to such extremes to sit back and remain passive, something evenually has to give. Thank Goodness for people like CM. Fear and fear mongering is common wherever you are in the world and religion is used as a foil to help these people remain bigotted. Change has occured in every century and if you are to accept we now eat Shellfish (Biblical Sin), Divorce (Biblical Sin)are we to expect protests outside of Enniskillen's restaurants and Lawyers offices. Anybody can come up with a statistic to support any argument but I challenge the White's and the other commentators to get to know their perceived enemy before casting judgement. Humans who happen to be gay are like CM stated, normal people trying to get through their day like anyone else. In larger towns and cities, with thanks to the media etc. they are able to become more visible and therefore have more courage to live their life as being true to themselves. Religion is wonderful and has a place but it is also the biggest cause of wars... N. Ireland being no exception to this. So I ask you always keep educating yourselves, keep an open mind, review both sides of the story and be kind to each other, surely this is the real teaching of the Bible.

CM: God cannot, I repeat cannot, forgive sin that is NOT repented. He will NOT over-ride our free will. He calls us to repent and give up our sin, but He will not force us. Sin that is not repented is unforgivable sin, and this will place us in hell, if we persist in sin until death.

GD: Re: the shellfish argument, you are not able to take one verse and claim that homosexuality is now ok, because Christians are free to eat shellfish. Biblical exegesis is key. The Magisterium of the Catholic Church interprets the bible. We do not hate gays. We love them, in the true sense of the word, by desiring their freedom and salvation. Freedom from lies and destructive ways of living, and salvation in Jesus the saviour. Being true to oneself demands the truth about who we are: men and women created in God's image. False fluffy 'love' is not true love. It condones sin and winks at sin, but does not serve the person well. Sin is the cause of wars. If all people lived the true teachings of Jesus, we would not be at war.

God will pour true joy in your heart. You will have the consolation of the Holy Spirit. You will have a blessed eternity. Pauline, I brought up the Westboro link by coincidence, as an example of anti-gay protests in contrast to Alice's example of homosexuals in protest, there are many more examples of anti-gay protests that I can give you the link for. It's clear, seeing as you cannot answer some of the questions in my above comment, that people such as myself are going to get nowhere trying to reason with you. So let's continue the tradition of hatred, something which is particularly alive in our country, and add homophobia to the list of things used as a tool to oppress, bully, alienate and persecute others. The very fact that there is so much intolerance and hate in this largely ugly world of ours is why I lost my faith in god in the first place.

On the other hand, no genuine Christian would approve of Westboro's protests. They are truly contemptible in what they do.

This isn't about hate, or intolerance, or 'homophobia' - whatever that is. It is about what is best for humanity, or as I prefer to call it, the human family. Homosexual acts are acts which are gravely wrong and are not what God had in mind when He created us. The choice is ours though: we all have choices to make and these choices will carry over in eternity. As you live, so you shall die. I try to remind myself of this often.

What we are about is warning people that this lifestyle WILL destroy you. It is totally destructive. There are so many young people, especially young men, who are being sold a LIE about who they are and what they are. They are being sucked in to this world of depraved lust and impurity, on the pretext that 'here is freedom'. I say no, this is not freedom but enslavement. CM - I thank the good Lord for people like you who have spiritual values beyond the restraints of organised religion. The fear these bullies are pushing feels more contemptible than the drug pushers at the school gate or the priests / clergy involved in sex crimes against children. It scares me to hear such vitriol spew like lava from their mouths.

The problem with these people is that they live in fear. They are not allowed to question anything else the sky might fall on top of them. Anything that is different or alien is immoral / wrong and ultimately a sin. They can not open their minds nor expand their horizons because they are constrained by religious tenets of yesteryear. When they preach of love, it comes across as hate. It truly is heartbreaking to think such small minded people still exist.

Your anger and hatred, all done under the guise of religion incites people to get injured or hurt. It could the war that waged in our own land, it could be the religious tensions between the Muslims and Jews... you really need to learn to love unconditionally, without bigotry, without shaking the big bible at everything that seems strange or odd to you - learn to accept differences, learn to extend a hand of friendship and welcome people in instead of pushing them away.

CM: in your short post, you reveal a distinct lack of knowledge and understanding concerning the authentic Christian Faith and the nature of the homosexual condition, illustrated by your comment about their being 'true to how they really are'.. You'll note that throughout these threads on all the impartial stories pertaining to this matter, not once was any person condemned to hell or hated in the way you describe.

You would much rather be your own god, choosing for yourself what is right and wrong, because you are enslaved to your own passions and desire for pleasure above holiness and union with God. This reveals that you do not love the true God above all things, because if you did, you would do anything it took to serve this God and spend your eternity with Him. This would including renouncing sin, which the community, that is the Church, founded by Christ, has instructed the faithful about for the last 2000 years, consistently. Christian Truth does not change. Homosexual actions have been condemned in the Old Testament right through to the New, for example, Romans, which is clear teaching about this matter.

Alice, you never cease to amaze me with your threads and biblical quotes - it's great you live such a closeted life, choosing only to believe in certain teachings of the bible yet choose to ignore others. I bring up the sexual abuse in the Catholic Church and you immediately pounce on this as being caused by predatory homosexual men. I do not denounce the work of the Church, but in this aspect the Church erred. There was a huge coverup at all levels within the church. Priests who are pedophiles (not homeosexuals and please take the time to look up both definitions in the dictionary and you will find no links between the two) abused both girls and boys and it seems you are suggesting there is a huge Gay Mafia at work within the Vatican and Church with the objective of seducing young men only. Pedophiles are at work across the globe, in the church, in your own town... give up the hatred of gay men and women and focus some of your 'good intentions' on pedophiles (repeating this is different than someone being gay). And please open your eyes to the fact that young children and babies are being abused, and also adolescent girls and boys - but .. and I ask you to ponder this Alice, as these sick crimes are committed right under all of our noses is it really easier for you to have a "blame the gays for everything" approach rather than blame the real perpetrators.

Your hatred and fear mongering demean the very message you are trying to spread. Unfortunately in my experience, it's the hardline Christians like you that end up living the biggest lie, having double lives because they are so scared to be true to who you really are. There are so many fallen 'celebrity' christians, especially in the States who for years preached their fire and brimstone messages in front of huge television audeinces. Then their sins find them out, and the big bank balances too...

Alice, I read that article, just because someone who is molested is a teen, it does not mean that it is not still peadophilia, you have yet to answer whether you would still be so quick to deem it homosexuality if it were one of your own accusing a member of the clergy. Furthermore, I think the fact that those predominantly molested by such disgusting, vile people are in their teens is only due to the fact that this is the age when most become involved in things such as altar serving.

CM: You're in denial. Ephebophilia is the sexual attraction to teens. Pedophilia is sexual attraction to kids. You can argue all you want about legal definitions, ages of consent etc... but the fact is, these abusive priests, the vast majority of them, were abusing young men who had already begun puberty. The figures support this thesis. You can't seek to normalise one perversion (homosexuality)and then cry when things go even more wrong in some cases.

If it were one of my own, I would have no hesitation in using the correct word to describe the nature of the abuse.

Thanks for the discussion Alice - I am so pleased you now recognise psychiatric disorders such as pedophillia and ephebophillia. Instead of spending so much time only reading your biased US family / religious focussed blogs,, try looking up the descriptions for thesse disorders. Homosexuality is not linked to these but I admit there may be some homosexual people who suffer from them.... like there are heterosexuals. Based on the true numbers, 1 in 10 people are gay, therefore I suggest a tenth of the disgusting abuse within the Catholic Church was by gay priests... the rest by heterosexual priests.. .that would be 9 out of ten straight priests who are into sexual abuse of boys or young men - that is pedophillia or ephebophillia not homosexuality. Homosexuality used to be regarded as a psychiatric disorder too, for your information, until it was removed from the DSM under pressure by gay activists! We've been over this already. All sexual activity outside marriage (between 1 man and 1 woman) is sin, whether it's with your dog, a member of your own gender, your sister, a child, a goat - whatever!

Thanks Alice - I'm a little slow but yes, I do know it was regarded (operative word) as a disorder until scientific research proved otherwise. It certainly was not declassified because the bad gays pressured the Government Health organisation. They are bad people but unfortunatley they do not have the pulling power you suggest. I think you might overestimate them a bit.

And thanks for empowering my argument even more. If 10% is wrong, and 2 % is more like it, then of the sexual abusers within the Catholic Church, that would mean out of 98 % are heterosexual pedophiles or ephedophiles, and 2% are homosexual pedophiles or ephedophiles. None is any better than the other but it kills your notion that this whole heinous abuse is totally caused by gay priests.

Great suggestion for you, instead of only reading 100% right wing family values (read hate anything that we do not agree with) websites, at least broaden your horizons and try to get a balanced viewpoint. Your opinion is really important, but an opinion based on propaganda is essentially baseless.

The incident that triggered all these comments was a peaceful Christian witness upholding Biblical Marriage outside an Enniskillen hotel.The couple involved (The White's) were threatened with arrest if they continued to display their Biblical Marriage placard. So much for religious liberty.We supposedly live in a tolerant society but where, may I ask was the tolerance for the White's Christian views and who will now have the courage to do what they did, if such action will lead to arrest by the PSNI....

I think the White's should have let themselves be arrested. It would all then look quite silly. This would have called the police's bluff, or else resulted in a better news story! Once Christians start really sticking their neck out as a witness for truth, then they might just get them chopped off, but it's either that or hide under a stone. The Lord indicated the fate of those who deny Him.

The only logic that is laughable are your postings Alice... really, what era are you living in. I do not need to read your right wing, hate spewing URL's. Really, do you sleep well at night as a purveyor of ignorance and propaganda? You always avoid mentioning the things I bring up where you agree with me and do not have an answer. Yet you throw out these websites etc that have no love in them, no caring for the weak, the helpless, the needy. ANd do not come back with we love the sinner but not the sin. That is just you covering your back. Face facts Alice, you are a scared little woman whose only real control comes from living in the dark ages, unwilling to accept times have moved on and the power you have is to post outrageous rants on a small town newspaper blog. Why don't you stand out on Townhall Street and tell the masses how you would like to see anyone that is different from you rot in hell... reread your messages and see how an outsider would understand what you are saying.

And Sola, Protesting is a right and they were allowed to make their point. Just think how the minority Catholics in N.Ireland suffered as an under class before and during the Troubles. Think about African American people and their struggle to have their voices heard. Think about the native South Africans and their fight to be accepted.

Believe me, gay people are not trying to take over the world. They have been treated like second class citizens for too long. They are denigrated, made to feel worthless and risk being cast out of their family and community if they do in fact come out openly. Pushing anything underground leads to depression and feelings of low self esteem. In small communities like Fermanagh, gay people have to seek out like minded people to have conversations to feel like they belong. Likewise, you attend church to celebrate with like minded people the joy of knowing Christ and being part of his family. You are allowed to do this, you have religious freedom to preach, to congregate and to praise your God.

I pray for you both.

Been a while but thought I'd check in - glad to see Alice and Sola were quietened to the point of hibernation. Thanks Steve for your support, felt like I was the only one out there that did not have blinkers on!
