Dear Sir - Your paper of two weeks ago carried a letter from Mrs. Arlene Foster making an issue of the voting methods in the forthcoming Election. She makes a lot of the UUP stepping aside and giving her a free run in that election. Maybe Arlene should consider that it is the DUP who should be standing aside and allowing the UUP to again be the dominant Party in this Constituency. Arlene has caused a great divide in the Unionist family from the time she left the Party and joined the DUP. The first paragraph of her letter seemed good advice for herself and the DUP.

Because she was so impetuous she missed the chance of being MP for Fermanagh and South Tyrone for the past number of years. Had she remained with the Party her position would have been strengthened considerably. Instead, in trying to destroy the UUP she put the Sinn Fein candidate in to top the poll. That was surely brilliant!

Of course it is a question why she puts so much stress on the possibility of Mrs. Michelle Gildernew being the MP for another term. Presently, and for the past number of years she and her "Never, Never, Never" colleagues sit with Sinn Fein in the Stormont Assembly.

Arlene should not forget that the UUP have always been in the defence of Northern Ireland over the years of the State's existence. She certainly has reached the heights in the DUP and that is to her credit, but is that all which is required? It was the UUP which made the base for her success in politics.

We all are aware of what she did on the UUP, yet every opportunity she gets she tries to destroy us by her rhetoric.

Further, the electorate were given the impression that if Dr. Paisley got most of the votes in the last Assembly Elections, he would ensure Sinn Fein got nowhere in a future Stormont Executive. We all are aware now that Sinn Fein never was stronger in the Executive. It was a pyrrhic victory for the DUP.

Yours faithfully,

SAM FOSTER

Ulster Unionist.
