Dear Sir, - While FDC maintains it is not "anti-dogs" it still put down 87 dogs last year, unnecessarily. I could understand that these dogs could not be 'rehomed', if the question must be put to the council - did they actually try?
The Environment Director maintains the number of dogs destroyed to be "higher than we would like it to be" - What do they do to try and reduce this number? I have worked alongside many councils, both sides of the border who actively work to rehome dogs on their website, appeals through the newspaper and partnerships with kennels and pounds.
I have lived back in Fermanagh for nearly 10 years and not once have I seen an appeal from the council for rehoming stray or volunteered dogs. I am the proud owner of a 'pound' dog from Monaghan, and am horrified to know that the council is putting down more than one dog per week, rather than putting a little bit of work in to enjoy watching the same dog go to a loving home.
Yours faithfully,
Dog Liker

Get real! Councils and such organisations only do as stated as a last resort. If you have not seen any appeals then I suggest you get a TV licence and a television.
