Dear Sir -This may be of interest to your readers. I took this photograph last week on Killymacken Lough (near Teemore), which is opposite where my brother Albert lives (and where I was brought up). My brother advises that the signets had two sets of parents (not known how many each), when they hatched out. However, local swans on small Fermanagh loughs are very territorial and it is very common just to see a single pair on each small lough. A beautiful, and I think unique local sight. This pair were the most dominant and took on the orphaned signets of the parents they had banished. There are 13 signets.

Yours faithfully

Austin Lunny
