Dear Sir - Recently Positive Futures and the families we support heard the welcome news that our Lakeland Families Service, which was expected to close in the near future, will continue. The Health and Social Care Board have provided funding for the Service until March 2011, have recognised its value and have agreed to discuss its long-term future with Positive Futures, the Western Health and Social Care Trust, the families and others involved with the Service.

I wish to express the thanks of everyone at Positive Futures to the families, local councillors, MLAs, MPs, the media and others who fought so hard for the future of this Service, which is regarded as a model of best practice in supporting children with a learning disability and their families and recognised by many families as a “lifeline.”

During the next few months we will continue to work closely with the Western Health and Social Care Trust, the Health and Social Care Board, families and other stakeholders in the hope that the long-term future of the Lakeland Families Service can be secured. We are sure we can count on the continuing and invaluable support of the community in the discussions which lie ahead.

Yours faithfully,

AGNES LUNNY OBE

Chief Executive
