Dear Sir, - In reply to your article and letters in last week’s paper, I would like to comment as follows.

As a resident of Rossigh I wish to object to the proposal of the parking of motor homes in the car park at Rossigh.

There are two caravan parks within two miles, one with a marina to facilitate the needs of anyone with boats.

These businesses and numerous others within the vicinity have spent millions of pounds on their caravan parks to facilitate tourists.

So why does Fermanagh District Council decide to go in competition with them when there are always spaces available in these parks.

Camper vans contribute nothing to the economy of Fermanagh and that is why when they are not able to obtain free parking they decide to leave.

They arrive in Fermanagh laden with enough provisions for their stay. This does not apply to the tourists who are prepared to stay in the proper legitimate caravan parks registered with Fermanagh District Council. They are tourists and are prepared to spend money in the local economy.

If I, as an adjoining land owner, I apply for permission for a caravan park at Rossigh my application will be rejected. Yet FDC can do this. Last year signs were erected stating, ‘No overnight parking’.

This certainly helped the situation but the camper van owners soon discovered that this was not monitored at weekends. Now they stay only at weekends.

People are also camping overnight, as there is a dramatic increase in the number of tents appearing. If this continues, FDC may as well put up a sign stating free caravan park and tenting facilities, as it will never be policed.

Yours faithfully,

Rossigh Resident
