Dear Sir, - I refer to the correspondence in last week’s Impartial Reporter relating to motorhomers. I do not understand the logic of Fermanagh District Council and their negative approach. I appreciate they have stated their intention to provide Aires at Carrybridge and Rossigh, however both these venues are a considerable distance from Enniskillen town.

The majority of motorhomers want to stay in Enniskillen town where they can browse around the shops and go out for a meal in the evening where they will be within walking distance of their van. Motorhomers are generally well behaved, mature people who care for the environment and will cause annoyance to nobody.

Surely in this time of recession Fermanagh District Council should be encouraging all tourists to come to Enniskillen, not trying to drive them away.

I know Fermanagh Forum is Council property, but would it not be beneficial to the economy of Enniskillen and the motorhomers alike if FDC provided a few parking spaces at the Forum specifically for motorhomes? At least this way FDC would have control over the number of vans allowed to park there.

Surely when this works in towns like Broughshane, Whitehead and Carrickfergus it could work in Enniskillen.

It just seems such a shame to drive any tourist away and we have to bear in mind if these people are not staying in Enniskillen, our loss will be some other town’s gain!

Yours faithfully,

Supporting Tourists
