Dear Sir, - In reply to your many letters regarding camper vans I myself own one and would like to make a few comments. I live in Belfast and visit Fermanagh frequently during the summer months. I park my motor home and boat in one of your luxury caravan sites near Rossigh. There, my family have security at night and have full use the showering and ironing facilities, not to mention the fact that my children can play safely. I have saved for my motor home and bought it in the knowledge that, when coming to Fermanagh, instead of parking illegally in lay bys and car parks I would have to pay for this and I am quite happy to do so.

There are some owners who will not pay for these wonderful facilities and they get they rest of us a bad name! They park in farm yards, paying a few pounds per night and, during the day, drive to some of the numerous supermarket car parks, eating and parking there all day. Then, leaving their campervans, they walk around Enniskillen. If this is the type of tourist FDC is going to attract through their proposed ‘Aires de Service’ in scenic car parks it is a very sad situation. There is no need for these ‘Aires de Service’ as there are plenty of spaces in the adjoining caravan parks. I feel that it is very unfair to caravan park owners that many ‘unscrupulous’ people are being encouraged by FDC to park legally in car parks.

I wait patiently to see the chaos this will cause as it has proved to be total disaster in other areas and no decent campervan owner would stay overnight in one!

Yours faithfully,

Legal Parker
