Charity begins at home
Dear Sir, - I was extremely interested in your headline of January 12, 2012 - 'Health Trust owed money for cross-border patient care', in relation to a query by Councillor Farrell. The platitudes of Councillors Baird and Britton about cross-border co-operation enrage me.
I co-operate with my neighbour on projects which benefit us both, I do not hand over my bank card and PIN number.
As one, (and there are plenty of others), who sat/stood in the corridor of the Erne Hospital for six hours waiting for a bed for which I had been booked for six weeks, it infuriates me to find that my taxes are being used to facilitate people from another country while I receive third-world treatment.
Some time ago I contacted the offices of two MLAs about this very subject and about people from ROI obtaining free medicines in Northern Ireland. The silence has been deafening.
I hope Councillor Farrell will have more success in pursuing these issues than I had.
Yours faithfully,
NI Tax and ratepayer
