St. Mary's Brollagh should remain open
Dear Sir, - Last Thursday I was invited to attend a meeting in St. Mary's High School, Brollagh. I have just moved into the area and so was shocked to hear that the only post primary school in the region was being threatened with closure.
I listened intentively to the strong proposals discussed to keep the school open and must say admired the conviction and determination to do so from the local community. It is imperative the young children in the region have a secondary school available and give my full support for this cause.
I thought that the first speaker's facts and figures gave a great insight into the problems that the school faces in view of decreasing numbers and enrolment.
On leaving the meeting I had a brief discussion with a parent of a child from St. Mary's who informed me that some members of staff send their children to schools in Enniskillen. I found this rather odd as I assumed numbers were paramount in keeping the school open. Nevertheless maybe I will be enlightened at the next meeting.
Finally I must stress that I think St. Mary's Brollagh should remain open for the good of the community and the youth in this area and will be giving this motion my full support.
Yours faithfully,
Mr. D. Matthews
