Gospel music plea
Dear Sir - Our community was greatly shocked and indeed annoyed to hear the announcement by Mr. Ronnie Morrison that he through circumstances forced upon him by Downtown Radio has decided to stand down from his position due to him being asked to play music to which he disagrees.
Ronnie was a spiritual soul with a great ethical following and longing for his gospel music.
I. along with many others, see Ronnie's compelling decision to step from his post because of his employers demand to go secular on his musical talent as a retrograde move to accommodate the worldly listener. I feel that Downtown should take into account the thousands of listeners who enjoyed the gospel music by Ronnie Morrison and put out on the air by Downtown Radio.
I believe that Downtown has thrown the spiritual baby out with the bath water and in so doing have abandoned a large section of the Northern Ireland community who have a deep love of gospel music. There are those who have no Christian commitment but still love the music. Many of us have enjoyed Ronnie Morrison's music on Downtown Radio and it would appear that management are fixing something that's not broken.
I am appealing to you the management of Downtown Radio to reinstate Ronnie Morrison and send out the message that Downtown has a listening ear to it's many listeners who wait in the wings to hear of Ronnie's reinstatement.
I would urge that my request and that of thousands more are taken seriously and Downtown Radio will reap the reward of an increase in listeners because God is no man's debtor.
Yours faithfully,
Bert Johnston
