Dear Madam, - In her interesting article about life in Washington and her continuing development and education as a person, in the Impartial Reporter 17.07.14, Kylie Noble states the following as a guiding principle: “What I cannot accept is politics founded upon oppression and inequality ----”. I think that most people would find this statement of principle commendable.
However, Ms Noble then contradicts her own stated principle when she writes in the last paragraph of her article: “I am working for a time in Northern Ireland when tackling poverty, racism, lack of LGBT and abortion rights, fracking and environmental concerns and the discontinuation of segregated education are at the forefront of our politics”.
Abortion should not be on that list of rights. Surely, the right to life trumps everything else as it is fundamental to all other rights; nothing is more “oppressive or unequal” as the deliberate destruction of a human life by means of induced abortion which Ms Noble advocates.
Yours faithfully, Micheal O’Cathail Co. Fermanagh
