DEAR MADAM - I am writing to express my concern about the flying of the Union Flag alongside the flag of the State of Israel, as illustrated on the main street of Lisbellaw, but is often seen throughout the Province.

The reason for my taking exception to the flying of these flags alongside each other is the fact that Israel was established at the cost of the lives of British servicemen.

Britain surrendered her mandate partly because of the onslaught of Jewish terrorist gangs and particularly the blowing up of the King David Hotel in Jerusalem (the home of the British administration of Palestine). Many members of the Stern Gang, who perpetrated these atrocities, became ministers in the first Israeli government.

It would appear that Loyalists need to review their reasons for flying this particular flag alongside ours. I would like to know what their reasons are?

Sincerely, GEORGE ARMSTRONG Cambridge.
