DEAR MADAM, - I am a 65 year old man who has enjoyed excellent health throughout my life, so much so that I have never, until five months ago, spent a single day in a hospital.

This all changed at that time, when I had a fall which resulted in a fractured shoulder blade and fractured rib plus head injuries which resulted in a two week stay in hospital.

I am taking time to write this letter in order to highlight the excellent care which I received (this probably saved my life).

Without any questions or conditions, a fully equipped paramedic car and ambulance was dispatched to my assistance. With speed and safety, I was rushed to the wonderful, state-of-the-art SWAH in Enniskillen.

The care and attention that was given to me by our NHS dedicated, caring professionals, was second to none. I might add that had we to pay for this service that at least 95% of us would be able to cover the cost.

Our NHS is a wonderful institution and envied throughout the world.

Yes, I have paid my due, National Insurance etc. throughout my working life and I do not begrudge one single penny. In fact, if it’s value for money you are looking for, it is there in spades. For all, rich and poor. We are forever hearing only the negative side of this service.

I would like to extend my sincere gratitude and thanks to each and every one that had a hand in my excellent care from the paramedics, consultants, nurses and catering staff. My family and I will be forever grateful, Yours faithfully, GEORGE NICOS SAVVA
