Dear Madam, - I am a newcomer to Fermanagh from the South, although I come actually from the East and the country near Dundalk. We arrived a year and half ago and have made our home here. It was with some astonishment that we soon received a notice of our entitlement to vote advising that if we didn’t get onto the electoral register immediately we would be prosecuted and risk a large fine and even jail!

While exercising the privilege to vote in the local elections last year in my assigned polling station in lovely Tempo, I was astonished to discover not a single candidate on one of two ballot papers who was not explicitly allied to one of the ancient tribes of Union or National, Orange and Green.

I yearn now for the opportunity to vote in the upcoming general election for a quality electable candidate who is for unity of all peoples of this beautiful northern land. I don’t mind if the person belongs to one of the established parties so long as they are genuinely seeking and capable of securing full community support.

I consider this a reasonable request. I simply ask of my new neighbours to be given the opportunity to be represented and served by an MP for Fermanagh and South Tyrone who stands for all the good folk of the great towns and lands of the area in which we have chosen now to dwell. If someone of this description steps forward or is agreed among some parties, I will happily give some good hours of time and quality support to help them get elected. Yours faithfully, Neil McCann
