Dear Madam, - News from the Clogher Valley is that the upcoming Carleton Summer School is shaping up to be as lively and varied as ever. Members of the committee have been busy finalising details for the annual celebration of one of Tyrone’s most illustrious writers.

William Carleton (1794-1869) has left a rich legacy of published stories recording life in his native Tyrone in the years leading up to, and following, the Great Hunger.

Based in Corick House hotel, the Carleton Summer School provides an opportunity for everyone and anyone to relax in the company of enthusiasts from the arts, local history and politics over the space of three days at the beginning of August. Among those expected at Corick this August are columnist and controversialist Ruth Dudley Edwards, cleric and broadcaster Fr Brian D’Arcy, writers Sophia Hillan and Tess Maginess, and a long list of stimulating voices from the island of Ireland. Also planned for the entertainment of Carletonians are musical performances in Clogher cathedral and in local venues.

Judging by the enthusiasm of the energetic committee, ‘Carleton 2015’ will be an event not to be missed.

Yours faithfully, Name and address supplied
