DEAR MADAM - The announcement by Translink that they are placing three local services under review is deeply worrying and will be of great concern to many people in this area who rely on public transport to get about.

I know of constituents for whom the 397 Enniskillen Town Service provides the only way to get into the town centre to shop, or indeed to get to vital services like the South West Acute Hospital. Some have no means of transport of their own and are wholly dependent on this service. Indeed, for many hard-pressed pensioners, it provides a free means to get out and about and remain active in the community.

We cannot allow any reduction in the timetable as it currently stands. Indeed, at a time when traffic congestion in the Enniskillen area remains a problem, removing public transport defies logic - it should be encouraged rather than cut.

I have written to the Regional Development Minister Danny Kennedy and Translink expressing my disappointment and opposition to these proposals.

Make your voice heard through the online survey found on the Translink website. Join with me in protecting our bus services.

Yours, COUNCILLOR KEITH ELLIOTT DUP Councillor for Enniskillen.
