The Fermanagh Harriers Point to Point festival of racing at Necarne at the weekend provided some top class action and competitive racing with the undoubted local highlight being Fermanagh jockey Ryan Treacy's superb win aboard Folduf in the Robert Donaldson Le Graphics Confined Hunt Winners Race on Saturday.

Rosslea man Treacy was securing his second point to point win and drove Folduf home to win by a length and a half for owner Willie Vance and trained by Johnny Vance. In so doing, he marked himself down as a young jockey to watch out for.

Elsewhere, it was an unusually blank weekend for Derrylin trainer David Christie during which he failed to reach the winner's circle.

The top race on Saturday was the Donnelly Motor Group Open with the locally owned Subaroo Blue sent of the favourite but he could only finish fourth for the Sporting Pointers Syndicate that enjoyed such great success at this meet with Top Twig in recent years.

The competitive calibre of some of the races was highlighted on Friday evening when Grand National winning trainer Gordon Elliott won the Mahon's Hotel Ladies Open for the Forster Richardson Plate by two lengths albeit at short priced odds.

All in all, though, the two day festival was well attended with around 1,000 spectators attending with good fields making for competitive racing of the highest order.

Joint secretary of Fermanagh Harriers, Rodney Watson commented: "We had 15 races over the two days with big fields and competitive racing and there was a good turnout on both Friday and Saturday."
