It is all to play for at the top of Division One with four teams locked together on 15 points with three games to go.

With the league going to a straight final this year instead of semi-finals it should make for an exciting conclusion to the campaign.

Ederney pushed their way into the mix on Saturday as they secured a three point win over Erne Gaels. Mark Henry’s side led by four at the break and were able to keep Belleek at arm’s length throughout the second half to seal the victory.

“It was a good win for us and it puts us in contention although it is very tight at the top of the table,” commented Henry.

Erne Gaels boss Maurice McLaughlin feels his side are still in with a great shout in the league despite the defeat.

“I thought it was a good second half which was encouraging going forward and it is all still to play for,” he said.

Ederney started the game well and Darren McCusker (2) and Finbarr Gillen gave them an early three point advantage.

That though was wiped out by a goal from Seamus Ryder, the full forward fielding a long ball before turning and firing home.

It was the home side though who enjoyed the better of things over the remainder of the half. Paul McCusker landed a point from play and another from a free, Chris Snow registered three points, including two 45s, and Peter Gormley and Marty McGrath also chipped in with a point.

Barry McCann and Seamus Ryder were among the point scorers for Erne Gaels in the first half but at the break they trailed 0-10 to 1-03.

Erne Gaels did improve in the second half but Ederney were always able to keep their noses in front.

The sides traded points with McCann, Ryan Lyons and Ryder on target for Belleek and Paul McCusker, Marty McGrath and Declan McCusker knocking over for St. Joseph’s.

With three points in it and ten minutes to go, Ederney made sure of the win when McGrath’s long ball was fisted to the net by Snow to make it a six point game.

Erne Gaels did account for the final three points of the half but Ederney had done enough to win the game as they finished up deserved 1-14 to 1-11 victors.
